Dip

DIP masterclass is a growing movement class based on different movement languages, methods and experiences I have been learning and practicing through the years that lead me into new ongoing discoveries.

In Dip we focus on research experimenting with the different elements of dance and movement with a mindful and healthy connection to our body.

We will be using methods and languages coming from the ballet, gaga and contemporary worlds as well as from street styles of urban culture such as popping and krump. A big inspiration and general approach of mine comes from the philosophy and practice of Feldenkrais and meditation.

Combining those, I will also introduce new ideas, directions and physical findings from my past and present research.

In the workshop we will not be using mirrors. We will practice working on our awareness of the body, its form and how we use it in relation to gravity, our different body parts, each other and space.

Sometimes the workshop includes application of ideas from my language through choreographic repertoire of my pieces.

"My experience with Etay’s work is rich, complex and evolving. I discovered his work a year ago through Gaga people and dancers classes. More recently I also participated in several DIP workshops that allowed me to enter even deeper into his world of movements.  What strikes me the most in his classes is his constant requirement throughout all his classes, regardless of the “dance level” of the participants. I ve always felt challenged during the 1 to 3h sessions, always in a safe environment. Etay shares technical aspects, and uses different ways to make sure we really understand them, embody them. Images like “drilling” your standing leg in order to create space and freedom in your other leg, or “mama” in your knees, “pika and yoyo” in your pelvis, “jayjay” in all your body are extremely relevant in my own research with him. The repetition of them class after class is an essential tool to build slowly but surely a clear and creative body language.  Also, I really like Etay’s ability to offer quality work to 6 to 65 participants. As a pedagogue he is very aware of the energy of the room and the needed dynamic to get the participants on board within tiny studios to big gymnasium. I enjoy Etay’s play lists, full of diversity and surprises but I even enjoy more the possibility sometimes of dancing in silence.  As a pedagogue myself, I really appreciate Etay’s professionalism: we always start on time, no tardiness allowed. It creates a respectful and engaging environment. A sense of humour is also present as we do have moments of sharing thoughts with Etay during the impro sessions. He is very curious about our own experience, feelings, misunderstandings… I like the fact that when he asks a question during the class he expects real answers from us, it’s not just a rhetorical question! To sum up, Etay’s work is one of my favourites for the last year among a lot of other classes and teachers. I really feel a change in my dance experience and want to discover more and more. It’s addictive work!!!  Thank you so much Etay"                                                    Piyer, a Dip practitioner
